Inside Room 9
A real life haunting for Halloween
Ghostly exploits at one of Cornwall’s most haunted hotels.
The Wellington Hotel in Boscastle Cornwall has a reputation among paranormal circles.
The hotel dates back to the 16th century and is one of Cornwall’s oldest coaching inns, so with that much history it’s no wonder the hotel can boast no less than three different ghostly presences. These include a coachman who is said to walk the halls at night, a little girl crying and an old woman who walks through walks and doors.
By far the room with the most activity is room 9. This appears to the central point of paranormal phenomena.
The room itself is fairly innocuous and has been recently modernised to include en suite.
Guests have reported awakening at night with the strong sensation of someone standing or walking up to the bed, the temperature dropping alarmingly. Older accounts include seeing an old lady walk past them in the corridor and disappearing through the door, the room at the time was unoccupied.
Another guest reported that after a good night’s sleep, as she moved around the room, a ghostly presence seemed to pass right through her! The guest was so spoiled that she refused to stay in the room the next night.
By far the most frightening experience in room 9 happened in full daylight. After check in, a woman returned to reception to demand another room, because an old woman was sitting in the chair by the window, so clearly the room was occupied already! When the receptionist went to investigate there was no evidence of any person! Needless to say, the woman refused to stay in the room.
It is said the old woman was a nanny who stayed at the hotel to care for her employers children but passed away during her stay…
When we visited the Wellington Hotel, its haunted reputation did not seem to put visitors off spending time there, and the hotel was fully booked. We were lucky enough to be able to walk around the corridors and visit the infamous room 9.
The corridor outside is very small and we felt a significant drop in temperature… we definitely had a strong sense of being unwelcome.
We didn’t need to be told twice..

That is freaky!
Yikes!
